This post offers the Hebrew and English text of Psalm 27, recited twice daily from the beginning of the Hebrew month of Elul through Shemini Atzeret, which concludes the High Holiday season of Rosh Hashanah, Yom Kippur and Sukkot. Both a prayer and a statement of faith and commitment, this text is a reminder of our dependence\u00a0on God in this time of repentance.\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n

Psalms Chapter 27<\/h3>\n

1<\/b>\u00a0[A Psalm] of David. The LORD is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear?\u00a0 The LORD is the stronghold of my life; of whom shall I be afraid?
\n2<\/b>\u00a0When evil-doers came upon me to eat up my flesh,\u00a0 even mine adversaries and my foes, they stumbled and fell.
\n3<\/b>\u00a0Though a host should encamp against me, my heart shall not fear;\u00a0 though war should rise up against me, even then will I be confident.
\n4<\/b>\u00a0One thing have I asked of the LORD, that will I seek after:\u00a0that I may dwell in the house of the LORD all the days of my life,\u00a0to behold the graciousness of the LORD, and to visit early in His temple.
\n5<\/b>\u00a0For He concealeth me in His pavilion in the day of evil;\u00a0He hideth me in the covert of His tent; He lifteth me up upon a rock.
\n6<\/b>\u00a0And now shall my head be lifted up above mine enemies round about me; and I will offer in His tabernacle sacrifices with trumpet-sound;\u00a0I will sing, yea, I will sing praises unto the LORD.
\n7<\/b>\u00a0Hear, O LORD, when I call with my voice, and be gracious unto me, and answer me.
\n8<\/b>\u00a0In Thy behalf my heart hath said: ‘Seek ye My face’; Thy face, LORD, will I seek.
\n9<\/b>\u00a0Hide not Thy face from me; put not Thy servant away in anger;
\nThou hast been my help; cast me not off, neither forsake me, O God of my salvation.
\n10<\/b>\u00a0For though my father and my mother have forsaken me, the LORD will take me up.
\n11<\/b>\u00a0Teach me Thy way, O LORD; and lead me in an even path, because of them that lie in wait for me.
